We’re working together through local service projects in our communities.

As the Body of Christ, we represent Jesus in our communities. Jesus modeled for us how to live in this world and impact people’s lives: He came to serve.

As your church begins to pray, God will show His heart for the Aboriginal people. As you listen to God in prayer, he will speak to you creative ways in which you can serve these people in your community.

Remember, it is not something that makes you feel good. It is not something that you think is a good idea. It is not necessarily even your definition of serving. Remember the motivation is not to make you feel good or for your church to look good to others. You serve because you love Jesus. You serve so that the Name of the Lord is lifted up. The question to ask is: How will it help Aboriginal peoples and communities?

Imagine what can be accomplished as we serve together and reach out to the Aboriginal communities with the love of God.

  • A total of 1,172,790 persons identified themselves as First Nations, Metis or Inuit.
  • Aboriginal people account for 3.8% of the nation's total population.
  • 623,470 Aboriginal people are living in urban centres, or 54% of the national Aboriginal population.
  • The median age for the national Aboriginal population (27 years) is 13 years younger than that of the non-Aboriginal population.
  • About a third of the Aboriginal population was made up of children under age 15.
  • Elders represented only 5% of the Aboriginal population.
  • Aboriginal people account for 4.5% of BC's provincial population and 24.5% of Yukon's.
  • Vancouver is home to 40,310 Aboriginal people, or 2% of its population.
